Did You Know?

  • The Pirates came to Portland in 1993, during which year they captured the Calder Cup Championship. The franchise has produced top-notch NHL and Olympic athletes such as Olaf Kolzig and Byron Dafoe.
  • Portland’s Tyler Ennis earned several accolades this season, including AHL Rookie of the Year. After being promoted to the Buffalo Sabres, he tied for first in Game Points for his team in the NHL play-offs.
  • In February, Portland  became the only AHL team to host the league’s All-Star Skills Competition and Game twice in its history.
  • Three former Pirates played in the gold medal game at the Olympics in Vancouver this year: Ryan Getzlaf and Corey Perry (Canada) and Bobby Ryan (USA).
